For People on Bikes, 6 Quick Announcements
Starting this weekend, 3 rides, 1 movie and 2 invitations to help build a better city
There is a lot coming up in the next few days, where the biking community can have an impact on better bike infrastructure and pedestrianization of streets.
1. Bank Street bike and transit study
The City is studying sustainable transportation options on Bank Street between the 417 and Rideau Canal. Project info.
There is a Zoom discussion on Wednesday, 12 June at 6:30pm. Please sign up or send in comments.
We need the active transportation and transit community to speak up, rather than have this defined by commuters travelling in cars to suburban communities south of the city.
If you can’t make it in person, you can email the City Project Manager with your thoughts: lise.guevremont@ottawa.ca
2. Critical Mass ride Saturday at 10am
June’s critical mass ride rolls this Saturday. 10am at the Canadian War Museum.
3. Move and Groove Saturday at 8:30pm
Saturday is a double header. Move and Groove glow bicycle night ride.
4. Motherload this Sunday at 11:30am
This movie looks awesome. It’s screening on Sunday at the Mayfair.
Tickets by donation at Eventbrite.
And see the display of cargo bikes in advance. I’ll be there with my Surly Skid Loader compact cargo bike.
5. Help make QED sparkle this summer
The Queen Elizabeth Driveway north of Pretoria will be closed to cars 24/7 for July and August.
The NCC is making a serious effort to animate that space and bring it to life.
Parkways for People and the Centretown Community Association are putting on a community discussion to discuss your ideas for how we can bring the QED to life.
Sign up on Eventbrite for the virtual discussion on Monday, 17 June at 7pm. The NCC will be there and shedding some more light on their plans for animating the space.
6. Kidical Mass on June 22 in Alta Vista
What can make you smile more than a young kid on a bike? A whole mass of young kids on bikes!
Kidical Mass Ottawa is now a regular event. The next ride takes place on Saturday, June 22 at Alta Vista Park in Ottawa. If you have little ones, or want to support more kids biking, sign up on Eventbrite for the ride starting at 1309 Randall Ave at 9:30am.
