The Mayor Tried to Silence You. Here's How to Be Heard.
City Hall won’t listen on Lansdowne? Then speak directly to Ottawa at the People's Committee — June 23 at Beaver Barracks.
They tried to shut us out — it backfired
Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Councillor Cathy Curry used a procedural trick to block debate on whether the public deserves a referendum on Lansdowne 2.0.
They didn’t just say no. They refused to even let residents speak.
This was a mistake — not just ethically, but politically. In trying to silence over 5,000 petition signers, they only drew more attention. The media took notice. The petition surged past 6,000 signatures.
Now, it’s time to make our voices impossible to ignore.
We’re holding a People’s Committee and you’re invited
Since City Hall won’t listen, we’re doing what they won’t: making space for the public to speak.
On Monday, June 23, from 4-8pm, we’re hosting a People’s Committee on Lansdowne at Beaver Barracks, 464 Metcalfe Street.
This is your chance to step up to the mic and speak your truth about Lansdowne — what it means for your neighbourhood, your wallet, and your city’s future.
You can speak in person, or online if that’s easier. Either way, this is your platform.
Let’s make some noise
We’re not just hosting a meeting. We’re creating a moment.
A moment that says enough is enough. That this city has higher priorities than a half billion dollar bailout for some of the richest men in town.
We’ll share what happens at the People’s Committee far and wide — through social media, local media, and the networks of people who are ready for a smarter, more democratic Ottawa.
Mark and Cathy are betting no one’s paying attention.
Let’s prove them wrong.
Will a representative of the City be present? Have the media been informed and invited to cover this? What is the follow-up plan to get this public expression out infront of the Mayor so they have to address it?
We’ll done!
