One of the big problems with the original LRT project was that it was not clear who was responsible and nobody was informing the public. It seems to me that OC Transpo now has a handle on the system, and though it still has problems from time to time, we learn quickly and clearly what is wrong and what is being done about it. I'd hate to lose that to Metrolinx contractors.
Yes, uploading the operational headaches of Ottawa's LRT to a faraway Toronto-based entity that doesn't really care about Ottawans may help to solve the City's financial problems but won't deal with the rest of transit and our ridership experience.
But the NDP are not likely going to win. I definitely don't want Metrolinx (Conservative promise) but the Liberal's plan is too vague. Absolutely agree with Sutcliffe knowing better.
I would like to hear from Catherine McKenney on the various funding options for Transit.
Who was the local councillor joining the Mayor at this announcement event?
Tierney, but others were there too. Gower, Carr, Darouze for sure. Possibly others.
